What AfCEN Convene is

AfCEN Convene is the operating system for running consequential convenings, from the first concept note to the 90-day check. It is for institutions that convene summits, programmes and working groups.

Big convenings often run on one enormous spreadsheet, approvals scattered across email threads and follow-up that depends on who remembers. After the event, commitments go quiet. Convene keeps the programme, workstreams, decisions and commitments on one record, so the work keeps moving after the room closes.

AfCEN's team sets up each convening with the host, from the workstreams to who owns what. Mansa, AfCEN's assistant, answers from your records and drafts the next step, and a person approves everything that goes out. WAIIS 2026 is being prepared on Convene.

How it works

From first visit to results.

  1. Tell us what the convening must change

Start from the outcome. The team sets up the programme, the workstreams and who owns what.

  2. Bring in the people

Leads, partners and delegates each get their own desk, with only the records their role allows.

  3. Run it in one place

Every lead sees what is red, what is waiting on them and what to open next.

  4. Follow it through

Commitments stay open until there is evidence they moved, at 30, 60 and 90 days.

What you can do with it

Programme and speakers

Sessions with rooms and times, speakers from invitation to briefing, and the run of show.

Delegates and logistics

Invitations, registration, accommodation, transport and protocol, held per delegation.

Workstreams and the deal room

Standing working groups with minutes and actions, and a project pipeline that feeds the deal room.

Commitments and outcomes

Every commitment made in the room, with its owner, its next date and the evidence it moved.

Ask Mansa

Ask what is falling behind. Mansa answers from your records, with your permissions, and drafts the next step for you to send.

Role-based desks

A principal sees decisions and risk, a lead sees their desk, and a partner sees only what was shared. Permissions are checked on the server and every change is recorded.

Who it’s for

Secretariats and principals

Decisions, risks and what is falling behind across the whole convening.

Programme, logistics and workstream leads

Their own desk with what is red, what is waiting on them and drafted next steps.

Partners

A scoped desk with only the records the host chooses to share.

Delegates

Registration and logistics handled per delegation, on the same record.

Questions people ask

Is Convene an event-ticketing tool?

No. Registration is part of it, but Convene is for the work around a convening: programme, workstreams, decisions and commitments.

Who sets it up?

The AfCEN team sets up each convening with you.

Can Mansa send emails on its own?

No. Mansa drafts emails, minutes and actions. A person on your team reviews and sends each one.

Does it work in French?

Yes. English and French are available now. Portuguese is next.

How does it relate to WAIIS?

WAIIS 2026 is being prepared on Convene: the planning committee, workstream leads and partners each work from their own desk on one shared record.
